The Tenkara USA Satoki is the culmination of our attempt to offer the versatility of the Sato rod in a stronger and longer configuration for tenkara anglers chasing larger fish on larger waters.

The Satoki is our biggest triple zoom rod and can be fished at 10'8", 12'2", and 13'7". At the shorter lengths, it balances incredibly well in hand due to the counterbalance of the collapsed sections. At 13'7", it's smoother casting than our other offerings at this length. It provides a confident feel when casting and playing fish of all sizes. With a 22.5" closed length, the Satoki is easy to pack to that larger river or neighborhood pond you'll be fishing.

The handle has our natural double-tapered design to give the angler options for holding the rod for any given circumstance. We opted for durable foam construction to match the heavier use we anticipate for the rod. The Satoki handle assembly has a striking woven graphite finish, with classic reddish brown segments throughout the rod. The Satoki also features our (patent pending) "keep your plug" system and triple zoom functionality.

What makes this rod special? This rod is longer and more robust than the Sato (our best selling rod) and will put up a fight!

I like using my tenkara gear to catch: Medium size fish (12-16" / 30-40cm), Larger size fish (16-20" / 40-50cm), Very Large fish (>20" / 50cm), Trout, Other species
I like using my tenkara rod in: Larger streams or rivers, Stillwater, Backpacking and remote waters
Medium to larger rivers for trout with nymphs.

I got a Satoki as soon as they came out but due to medical reasons, I didn't fish it until March. I really like it for the type of nymphing and guiding I do on medium-sized rivers. It has enough backbone to play and land medium to larger trout but retains the ability to protect light tippets. I have used my longer Ito considerably but always felt it was too soft for proper nymphing. I don't get that feeling with the Satoki. It has the stiffness needed to cast in wind and set the hook well and doesn't have a C-bend when playing fish. It feels light in the hand and does not feel as if you need to cast 2-handed, as happens with many rods longer than this. I do like longer tenkara or kairyu rods on occasion for fishing further out on bigger rivers but that it a different situation and no 1 rod works for everything (although the Satoki comes close). I consider the shorter zoom lengths as bonuses for when I need a shorter rod in tight quarters and have no doubt it will perform fine (although I have not used it that way yet). This would be an excellent choice as a backpacking rod as well as for general purposes. I used it in stillwaters too, in a local pond, and it did quite well with mini balanced leeches under a small strike indicator.

Primarily lakes and streams in the area.

The Satoki is a very nice Tenkara rod … I am totally new to Tenkara so I have a lot to learn. Tenkara USA certainly has helped me to develop an understanding of the Tenkara process. My goal now is to catch a big fish on the Satoki!

It is January in WI, so i have not actually fished the satoki yet. Practice casting it is telling me this rig is going to be great. The flex profile is perfect for most of my trout fishing purposes (med./fairly large fish, drys, wets, nymphs, and small streamers). The rod is beautiful with a great finish and parts that fit nicely. (high quality). The foam handle and artwork is a cherry on the top. I am thrilled with this purchase, and can't wait to fish.

    My new go to rod

I own several tenkara rods and find that either I needed one shorter or longer than the one in my hand, now with this rod I can carry the one rod, and cover the same footprint as all the others in my collection. The only thing I'm not partial to is the foam grips, I'm more of a cork person, but aside from that this is a good quality built rod and will see many years of use.
