The Iwana is our classic all-around tenkara rod and at a great value. The progressive taper, ultra-light weight, and tip action provides for great battles, even with smaller fish. Quality and strength are by no means compromised, and landing large fish is not unheard of. The original choice of many early tenkara adopters outside of Japan, the Iwana is still a great choice to help you fall in love with tenkara.

It packs to a small compact size of 20 1/2 inches, which makes it easy to fit in a day pack

These rods have a beautiful "glossy carbon" finish, where you can see the high-quality carbon fiber material through a nice glossy finish.

    Rod specs:
    Extended length: 12ft (360cm)
    Closed size: 20 1/2 inches (52cm) including 1/2" cap
    Segments: 9
    Handle length: 11 inches (23cm)

This is my first Tenkara rod. The Iwana is the right length and has a good feel and nice flexibility. Nice case for storing rod.

I initially rated this rod as very good because I was having fun with it but in the 6 months i've owned it, the end of the rod in different places has snapped twice. Tenkara USA does have good customer service but I don't know if it's worth paying $8 every month or so to replace pieces of the rod that break before I even get to start fishing. Would not recommend this rod because of the low quality.

First time Tenkara owner. Quite impressive. My 11 and 13 yr old sons were catching perch and bluegills within minutes.

I like using my tenkara rod in: Stillwater

I've never fly-fished before in my life, but I was able to catch fish on my very first outing with my new IWANA rod and gear from Tenkara USA. After watching a number of videos in preparation for the new rod, I found it to be a natural thing for me.

I'm happy with this length of this rod and what I've been able to learn even in just a few trips to the neighborhood pond. I'm excited to take this rod to places I wouldn't normally fish.
