The Sato is the rod we designed to make it easier to choose a tenkara rod, reducing the need to contemplate the question of "what tenkara rod should I get?"

The Tenkara USA Sato™ is a compact and lightweight (2.9oz) adjustable tenkara rod that can be fished at 3 lengths: 10'8", 11'10", and 12'9" (3.25m - 3.9m). At its shorter length it is perfect for tighter streams, and at its full length it will be ideal when the stream opens up again or when you find a bigger pool to cast your fly. The Sato is named after Mr. Ernest Satow, an avid mountaineer who was the first person to make a written record of tenkara.

The Sato™ has two patent pending features:
Triple-zoom: this allows you to use the rod at three different lengths - 10’8”/ 11’10”/12’9” (330/360/390cm). The average length for a tenkara rod is 12ft long, we like to recommend rods that are closer to 13ft, yet many people are intimidated by such long lengths for rods intended for smaller streams. So, we felt a rod with the 3 most common lengths would be an easy choice: short to ease you into tenkara, medium to give you a taste of the advantages presented by a long tenkara rod, and long to help you take full advantage to the tenkara method.

Keep your Plug™ system (patent pending): We're very excited about this very simple yet innovative feature. After hearing that no one has ever been able to keep their tenkara rod plug for longer than a year, we decided we should find a solution for you to never lose your plug again. We designed the “Keep your plug”™ system. Next time you go fishing, remove the plug from the top end of your rod and insert it into the hole at the bottom of your rod. The Sato™ will come with two plugs on the rod; please leave one at home in case you ever need it.

I like using my tenkara gear to catch: Smaller size fish (say 8-12" / 20-30cm), Medium size fish (12-16" / 30-40cm), Trout, Other species
I like using my tenkara rod in: Very small streams, Mountain streams
Small, remote mountain streams for wild trout

The Sato is probably the most versatile rod from Tenkara USA. The triple zoom feature lets you easily go from a shorter length to a longer length to match any situation. The rod is very light and just kind of “disappears” while using it. The handle shape/contour is very comfortable in a variety of hand positions and doesn’t cause the pins and needles feeling in your hand after long use. Casting with this rod is very intuitive and balanced. The biggest trout I’ve caught with this rod was about 10” and the smallest being around 3-4”. In all situations, this rod handled like a dream.

My first tenkara rod so I can't compare it to others.

It seems very well made. Has decent seeming recovery. nice even looking joints on the sections. Nice range of length for a small to medium size rod.

Caught a bunch of fish the first day out with it after figuring out part of learning curve on the casting and hook set.

Very pleased with the experience so far of the way the company handled the order and on the way it fishes.

I like using my tenkara rod in: Mountain streams, Larger streams or rivers, Stillwater
Lakes, ponds, small rivers and creeks.

I have only had the rod out a few times but I really enjoy it. It is a great rod to travel with or just to have in the car for a quick stop to fish.

First tenkara rod (purchased the Sato) and absolutely love it. It’s like a guaranteed way to catch fish! Really like having multiple lengths to choose from, as it helps while walking a stream and going in and out of areas of heavy tree cover. Just adjust the length to what fits under the trees and keep on fishing.

Seems to be a very nice rod. I have used it once and had no luck but I'm sure that was user error. It is a nice quality rod and as simple as it may seem, it is great having a place to put the rod plug.
