Here’s the opportunity for the trip of a lifetime. Join me for a week of tenkara in Patagonia, Argentina in March.
Tenkara USA founder, Daniel Galhardo, will be hosting a week-long Tenkara Week, in Argentina Patagonia. The Patagonia Tenkara trip will take place March 5-12, 2015.
If you’re interested in attending, please email us at info@tenkarausa.com, or go her to learn about booking.
The Patagonia Tenkara Week will be held at the Chime lodge, a fantastic lodge with amazing fishing. March is prime time for the smaller rivers of the area and should be very productive with tenkara. Fishing will take place on the Chimehuin River, the river that put Patagonia in the fly fishing map, and nearby tenkara-perfect Malleo and the Alumine tributaries.

Sample Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in San Martin de los Andes at Chapelco Airport (around 2 pm). Drive to Chime Lodge and float the Chimehuin River from town to Curva del Manzano (“Apple tree bend”).
Day 2
After breakfast at the Lodge we’ll drive to the Lower Malleo River. This section of the river is located in the Mapuche Reservation Amutuy Quime. It is wading only. There are hundreds of pools to fish all day long and then some. A lot of sight fishing is done picking the best and bigger fish.
Day 3
Our day starts at the Rinconada Bridge, which spans the Collon Cura River, with fish from 12 inches to several pounds. There are brown and rainbow trout and Perca, our native fish. Percas put up a nice fight, much like a brown trout, and eat whatever you throw at them.
Day 4
Fish a spring creek while waiting for an Argentinean Asado (barbeque). Catch brookies, or fish the outlet of the creek for trophy size trout up to 7 lbs or more. Dinner at the Lodge.
Day 5
Float the Chimehuin River, from Piedra del Viento (200 yards upstream from Chime Lodge) to the Military Bridge. Fish the pools that made Junin de los Andes a world class destination for fly anglers.
Day 6
Start the day at the confluence of the Malleo with the Alumine River. This is big water and we’ll cover tenkara techniques for that type of water catching fish from 12 inches to several pounds. There are brown and rainbow trout, some Atlantic Landlocked Salmon and Perca, our native fish.
Day 7
Go to San Martin de los Andes for some shopping and lunch (depending on time of departure flight) and then transfer to Chapelco Airport for departure.

Some words from Daniel:
This will be a one-of-a-kind experience for all of us. I have dreamed of fishing in the tenkara-perfect waters of Patagonia since I first picked up a fly rod 16 years ago, and I’m excited to share that experience with you.
We’ll be counting on the support of knowledgeable local guides and Martin, the river captain for the lodge. While I have stayed away from becoming a fly-fishing guide, I have always loved fishing with people and teaching what I have learned. I will be your host; we will fish together, share stories, enjoy the famous Argentinean barbecue (my parents in Brazil will hate me for admitting the deliciousness of the Argentinean asado!)
Testimonials
Perhaps one of the highest compliments I have received in terms of teaching tenkara has come from world-renowned fly-fishing author Dave Hughes, whom I spent a few days fishing with and says:
