A creek or small river

I love the rod but definitely wish the starter pack had come with a 10ft line instead of the 14ft. As a beginner I'm finding that extra line length really hard to cast and keep off the water.

Colorado high country site small streams, or canyon creeks. Actually I use Tenkara everywhere.

I think simple is better, so: this road rocks. It’s light as a feather, fantastic stiffness to weight ratio, casts like a dream, plays fish beautifully, closes up and possibly compactly.

As a small stream guy, I started with Rhodo. I adore that thing. Added a Sato, then Ito. I found that between the Rhodo and the Ito, I was covered. I gave the Sato away as a gift to a highly deserving psychotherapist who saved my kid.

Then, Tenkara USA offered up the Ukiyo. I was suspicious of the grip, but decided to give it a shot with my Christmas money a year or two ago. Loved it. Just loved it. For one thing, it fits in the tank bag on my motorcycle. Outrageous.

But it fishes like nobody’s business, and feels so right in the hand; light as a feather, plays fish beautifully.

So when they showed up with this Yama, I was trying to figure out what I needed it for. But I couldn’t resist and I ordered one.

Ukiyo owners: it’s every bit as good as your Ukiyo. But has more reach, is better in the wind, and is only one and a half inches longer closed up.

Shrug. Glad I bought it. It’s fantastic.

I like the reverse hackle it makes it more lifelike in my opinion beautiful craftsmanship

open areas where they don't tangle in trees and brush.

These new flies are very nice. There seems to be a bit more weight on them so they probably are worked better below the surface.

Complete Set: UKIYO™ Rod + Kit
Fire Tower (Manasquan, US)
I like using my tenkara rod in: Backpacking and remote waters

Carried this rod on an AT thru hike this year, the light weight of the setup made it a tempting luxury. The rod rode in its soft sleeve on the outside of my bag for over 2,000 miles, not a safe place for it and it received only a few cosmetic damages over the whole trip. Was able to pick out trout of small creeks and the setup was unintrusive and easy to carry.

Everything!

This rod is peak T-USA! I've fished Tenkara USA rods since 2009 and I can say with confidence that this rod is a quiver killer! I'll be fishing this on streams the size of a small puddle up to the Yellowstone river. Fantastic reach and action - I will be putting this rod to work in the coming months and years.
In my opinion this is the best rod in T-USA's lineup and T-USA makes the best Tenkara rods in the world. Hard to go wrong!

My favorite tapered lines. Feels great and also highly visible. Have lost this line twice (my own fault), and was frustrated with the spare option I had each time. Get yourself a backup!
