Tenkara rods are primarily used for fly fishing in small mountain streams and rivers. The rods are very versatile and can be used to catch a variety of different fresh water fish.
Tenkara rods are reel-less rods that include a rod, line and fly. The line is connected directly to the tip of the rod.
Tenkara rods are made of carbon fiber making tenkara rods extremely durable and designed to catch large fish.
You can use any fly with a tenkara rod, but for the best results consider using tenkara flies. We offer four fly patterns that are effective in a variety of waters and regions and offer great movement under water.
The size of the rod you need depends on the type of fishing you’d like to do as well as the terrain and size of the area in which you plan to fish. If you plan to fish in small streams with low, overhanging branches, then a shorter tenkara rod is a good option. A longer rod is good if you’re fishing in larger, more open streams and require more reach.
Tenkara has a variety of rods and the best rod depends on what type and size fish you want to catch, the stream size, terrain and the area you’re located in. If you’re unsure which is the best tenkara rod for you, contact us to get advice from our expert tenkara anglers.
You can use different tenkara lines, including the tenkara nylon line or tenkara furled line, with any tenkara rods.
With longer rods, you are able to hold your line and leader off the water and it’s also easier to reach the rod tip over currents so there’s less risk of your fly being dragged off course.
Tenkara rods are ultralight by design and easy to use. The rod design allows your fly to be in the water for longer which means you spend less time false casting and can achieve longer drifts. They’re also a more versatile rod than a traditional fly rod, meaning you can fish in smaller streams and areas you would often not be able to access with other fly rods.
Love my rocks T-shirt. Eye-catching and unique design.
Longer is better
I love the simplicity of Tenkara. I do not enjoy the delicate nature of the rod tips. I am a clutz so the warrantee is very important to me.
Really a great product, thoughtfully designed and packaged. The kit makes the buying process (and decision fatigue!) easy. Thank you.
Small and medium mountain stream
Small and medium mountain stream
I have several Tenkara rods in my arsenal(16), my latest addition two months ago was the Sato, I have never experienced such a light balanced Tenkara in the past several years. I have caught in excess of 200 Trout, Whitefish and Brown trout on the Boise river, in Idaho. I was fishing this afternoon and I hooked a massive Brown trout that snapped the third section on my Sato, it took one phone call to Tenkara USA and my part was shipped today. Can’t beat the customer service and the friendliness of the staff.
Would buy again
All equipment is excellent can’t wait to wet a hook. Love the Tee shirt design.
Tenkara Strap Pack
Convenient and easy to use.
I like to fish on mountain strams
The Satoki is a very nice Tenkara rod … I am totally new to Tenkara so I have a lot to learn. Tenkara USA certainly has helped me to develop an understanding of the Tenkara process. My goal now is to catch a big fish on the Satoki!
Love it so far
The rod is well balanced and handled fish well in strong currents.
