IWANA™ 12ft (360cm)
The Iwana is our classic all-around tenkara rod and at a great value. The progressive taper, ultra-light weight, and tip action provides for great battles, even with smaller fish. Quality and strength are by no means compromised, and landing large fish is not unheard of. The original choice of many early tenkara adopters outside of Japan, the Iwana is still a great choice to help you fall in love with tenkara.
It packs to a small compact size of 20 1/2 inches, which makes it easy to fit in a day pack
These rods have a beautiful "glossy carbon" finish, where you can see the high-quality carbon fiber material through a nice glossy finish.

Overall a god rod to accommodate my Hane and Amago just disappointed rod tip broke on a 10 in bass but still satisfied with rod and company ordering a replacement tip now
This is my second Iwana rod and I lost count of how many other tenkarausa rods I own. I have been wanting a second Iwana as a back up. This newer version though may make my older version the "back up" instead. Iwana is a great all purpose rod, in my opinion for the areas I fish. It has great action and can handle larger fish if needed. We don't always get to choose what size fish takes our fly afterall.
This is the tried and true, all rounder tenkara rod. From its action and amazing feel, you will know this rod has had a rich history. It probably has been in the hands of nearly every tenkara angler in the west. I have ZERO disappointments with this rod. It's what I first fished with getting into tenkara and am glad I own a new one with revamped aesthetics. It's not a rod that I will "keep as a back up" but one I will cherish and create good memories with. If this is your first introduction into tenkara- get this rod!
Great rod, has a bit more backbone than other rods I have tried, but only took a few casts to dial in for smooth casting.
The quality of materials and construction is evident. I like the compact size for a 12 footer, and will be out again before the streams ice up here in Montana.
I bought my first TenkaraUSA rod when the company was starting out in California. I was looking for a compact fly rod to take on family hikes. During a hike outside of Aspen, the rod saved the day. My son didn۪t want to go any farther. Luckily we found a small stream nearby and took a break. I pulled out the rod and immediately caught a small trout. That was enough to energize my son. He took over and I never was able to fish again that day. A few years later, I bought my second rod. I was not going to sit on the sidelines again.
