HANE™ 10ft10in (330cm)
The Hane™ is a super compact all-around tenkara rod that will quickly become your favorite adventure rod. Measuring just under 15 inches when collapsed, but extending to 10ft 10in (330cm), the Hane fits nicely inside a small day pack, making this a superb tenkara rod for backpacking, bikefishing and other adventures.
Whether you are targeting trout in a mountain stream, or bass in an urban pond, the Hane will work well. It's a rod that can tag along in a variety of conditions without compromising durability. The Hane is also a popular rod for kids.
We decided to make this rod white, a unique color in our lineup. The idea was to have a rod that will blend in well with open skies above. A black rod does a good job blending in with canopy, but its movement tends to stand out when fishing ponds and open meadow streams. The thin and less visible tip sections of the rod are matte black.

Lift up Chris Johnson's Living Waters Fly Shop in Round Rock, TX and his presentations to Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited. I use the Iwana and Hane rods here in Texas. I applaud the simplicity of Tenkara fishing. I have jettisoned the years of hoarding lines, reels, tackle, pushed by the tackle companies to throw good money down a hole in the water. I confess to also using ultralight spinning for trout and panfish.
This was my first Tenkara rod and I’ll never look back. I’m primarily a bass fisherman and I love my gear, but this rod and the Tenkara lifestyle really changed the way I approach fishing all together. The Hane is incredibly light and very responsive at the same time. It’s the perfect light fly slinger! This rod was the gateway into a whole other world and inspired me to dive deeper into the Tenkara world and get the Ito as well.
Unfortunately someone broke into my tuck and stole both Tenkara rods, but the point of this review is that I’ll be buying them both again!
This is not hyperbole, the Tenkara USA Hane changed my life for the better. As a life-long trail runner but a relatively new fly fisher, throwing the Hane in my backpack has revitalized my love of the outdoors as well as my sense of exploration. The rod's compact size and light weight mean that I don't think about it until I see a fishy stretch of water... then, I'm fishing all of 30 seconds later. From <3" brookies in snowstorms to 16" browns on gorgeous summer mornings, I've landed countless Colorado trout with the Hane, including the grand slam in a day... on foot... on four occasions, with each and every fish caught on the Hane.
This past week, I was psyched to add Kokanee to the species caught on my Hane. Well, actually, it's Hanes, as I've got a pair, as I'll sometimes run with two Hanes setup in different configurations. I can't wait to see what I'll catch next on 'em!
A good friend of mine was just getting into fly fishing but was overwhelmed with getting started. He bought the Hane after we went to a demo at our local fly shop (Living Waters) - the sensitivity, packability, and simplicity has made fly fishing a success and now his boys are catching fish too! The Hane is his go too and perfect for our beautiful Texas streams it can handle sun fish, cichlids, bass and I’ve even seen carp caught in this rod! Highly recommend!
I grew up fishing with my dad. And now that I'm a mom, I love to experience the sport with my son. The Hane makes it so easy to do that. If we're paddleboarding or hiking or traveling somewhere new, I always toss it into my backpack just in case we find ourselves with some time to fish. It makes it less of a production and just a seamless part of any outdoor outing. I get comments on my Tenkara rod every single time I use it. I love its simplicity. It makes me feel more connected to the water. I'm hooked (ha!).
