Forceps & Nipper Set
Besides a rod, line and fly, these are the only two other items we consider pretty much essential in our outings:
A small, ultra light forceps with a flat tip to remove the barb of your flies and remove the hooks that are deeper in a fish, and a small nipper to cut tippet when you change your flies. Not quite tenkara-exclusive, these are high quality standard forceps and nippers with features we picked based on our preference.

Nice matte finish on both products. The hemostats work great for the size trout I routinely catch high in the Colorado Rockies. The nippers... well, they nip well.
Perfect for my minimal setup.
You have no excuse not to carry forceps and nippers now. These are great, small, portable tools that work for fish large and small. The nippers also have a small sharp barb at the bottom (see photo) to open up the holes in hook eyes that are glued over. Love these.
Well made, well priced, and small (but not too small). Easy to toss in your bag and forget until you need them.
Crush barbs, nips line, and unhooks fish like they should.
I have been looking for a set of black matte forceps for some time but the ones i was finding were to expensive. The built quality is good with no unfinished edges and a solid locking mechanism. The serrated section is regular and the flat section...well its flat. The nippers are ok, they have found a place next to the tying bench for when I am pre-tying lines, tippets and flies.
