Following the Tenkara Summit, pictures

Following the Tenkara Summit, pictures

As mentioned here, the first Tenkara Summit was by most accounts and opinions a great success.  Over 100 people came, to enjoy the conversations, meet other tenkara anglers and of course fish in Montana. Following the summit our party, which consisted of Dr. Ishigaki, Masaki Nakano, Chris Stewart and filmmaker Brian Flemming, enjoyed several more days of tenkara fishing on the Madison, Firehole, Gallatin and Gibbon Rivers. Since we had Brian taking many pro-shots, I didn't take many pictures this time. Below are some of my favorites:

One of my favorite pictures during the Summit, Ryan giving a very entertaining talk about tenkara and the backcountry:

What about that drag-free drift?

Two days after the summit we were fortunate to be guided and accompanied by no less than Craig Mathews from Blue Ribbon Flies and Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. We met on the Madison and started following their Toyota truck on a road that paralleled tenkara-perfect waters, on the W. Fork of the Madison River. This day was an absolute treat for me since Yvon and the company he created have been a huge inspiration for Tenkara USA. The opportunity to pick his brain on business topics, talk about our support for environmental programs, and of course, fish together were more than I could ever have dreamed of. I enjoyed every minute of it. They talked about 1% for the Planet, and about how tenkara can have a huge impact on the fly fishing industry and on the sport of fly-fishing. The interview with Yvon was just awesome, not only is he a huge fan of tenkara and had great things to say about it and the industry but from a cinematographic perspective all lined up well: the skies behind him were dark with an impending storm, yet the light on him was nice and warm;rain started falling slowly, but he didn't seem to mind at all; Craig Mathews on the Madison, after his interview about tenkara
