I've only taken this rod out once, and I'm new to Tenkara style fishing. I have to say, I love it! So simple, and easy to pick up. I got everything tied on, and started casting; and within 3 casts I was catching fish. Bluegill just love these smaller flies, and are so much fun on this rod. I can't wait to get out more when the weather warms up a little bit.
It is an excellent rod. I have caught mostly small bass, bluegill and sun fish so far. Trout season is coming up and I am sure it will deliver. It is real smooth and collapses easily. I highly recommend it.
Tenkara Rod Replacement Parts
Was not planing for or properly prepared for what I put my Sato rod through. Down on the Guadalupe River in Texas yesterday 3/12/24. Ran down to a little low head dam with a short set of shallow rapids followed by a long stretch of deep/slow water. Grabbed my Sato Rod with Trouthunter 5.5x tippet and NO NET. So unprepared for what took place. Several people were at this spot as I’m told is usual. They were all doing the same thing: western fly rods w/nymphs and squirmy worms. We saw a couple fish caught by others in the hour and 1/2 my brother in law and I were there. I did something completely none conventional. With a 12’ furled nymphing line and about 4’ of the 5.5x tippet I caught(according to my brother in law) 18 trout from 15” to 22”. Without him there as my witness I would have no proof as we didn’t have our phones w/us for pictures. I love my Sato rod but I was so “under gunned” with the Sato for these ridiculously huge fish! I lost and broke off more than I landed. So “no conventional”! Unlike anyone else fishing there I had a tiny 1/200 ounce gold jig head w/a little chartreuse 1” soft plastic minnow (tiny swimbait). Swinging and twitching it across the current. The huge trout were stacked up at the base of these small rapids and blocked by the dam. How my rod didn’t break I have no idea. I kept expecting it to. I spent more time retying tippet and jig hooks than actually fishing and the fiasco of landing these huge trout w/out a landing net wasn’t pretty. Absolutely amazing and somehow my Sato rod survived! This was the “perfect storm”! Neil from Texas
I was very pleased with the service from Tenkara USA replacing a section of my Hanes rod.
Broken 2nd segment - no defect, definitely my fault. I ordered two of the 3 segment replacement packages to have a spare on hand next time. They were at my door two days later. 30 seconds to replace and I was back in business.
The Rhodo rod looks great. I have not fished it yet but had a chance to practice casting with a 11’ leader and it casted perfectly at 8’10” and 9’9”. Seems to need a longer leader at 10’6”. Otherwise, very nice rod, bag and tube.
Liked the fact it didn't stay curled up like the other line. Caught small trout on it floating worms on it. Thanks love my iwanna .
The 5x tippet of Tenkara USA is of high quality; it is strong, flexes well, and is abrasion resistant. I like the fact that you only need to carry the 5x tippet for your Tenkara fishing, and the small size of the spool is perfect for the minimalist approach. Highly recommended.
Well packed fly rod. I'm looking forward to using it.
To date, my experiences with the Rhodo have been frustrating. First let me point out that there economy shipping is very slow (almost 3 weeks) with little to no accurate tracking. After almost landing my first trout on the new rod, the rod broke at the second section from the top. I have been a trout fisherman for over forty years and have plenty of experience with various rods. As this is my first experience with a Tenkara rod, I watched hours of videos that are available through Tenkara USA so as to use the rod correctly and safely. Despite following the instructions for landing a fish provided by Tenkara USA, the rod still failed. While customer service has been outstanding and I am currently waiting for shipment of my replacement parts, I am fearful that the design of this rod is just not made for most fishing conditions especially backpacking in remote wilderness. I will review this rod again after I repair the rod and give it another chance. I am not sure that this review will ever get posted but if it does, buyer beware, I would strongly consider shopping around before purchasing this rod. I am giving this review two stars only for their customer service. The product so far is a one star at best.
I fish for mostly trout.
Customer service is great. Not impressed with the durability of the product. Rod broke on second day.
I really like the visibility of these lines and the ease with which they cast.
Parts arrived quickly and were well-packaged. Replacement of my broken rod part was easy. Another reason to love the simplicity of Tenkara.
I don't get to get out much, still trying to learn the area. I don't have much to offer because I am basically new to fishing.
The Tenkara like’s big water for my skill level to date
The Rod and all the accessories are beyond belief as far as high-quality.
. The parallel by thousand plus dollar fishing rods.
Having fun
Can’t wait for Blue Fishing out of my 15 foot ocean kayak this spring
Dave
Haven’t had it on any water yet it is all hard yet with ice
I’m impressed with the high quality and and currently tying patterns with hen soft hackle with 12, 14 & 16 hooks
Should have it on the water in the next two weeks
Happy Customer
Dave
On a side note, how much would it cost me to buy an extra tip section with the lillen
in case it breaks
I’m thinking it be good to have a backup when I’m traveling
I've used the Hane in streams, rivers, lakes and lagoons while backpacking in Patagonia Argentina. I was very happy with the results and the versatility. It's not like other ultralight tiny rods from the market, designed for small streams only. I caught a lot of brown, rainbow and brook trouts, from 10" to 20" and even 25". The rod is crazy compact and fits perfectly in my 40 liter backpack. I would strongly recommend it for fishing while backpacking.
